Flying Through the Trees at Gunstock Mountain — Zipline NH Adventure

If you’re looking for something thrilling, scenic, and totally unforgettable this summer, look no further than Gunstock Mountain’s Zipline Tour in Gilford, NH. I recently experienced it with my family, and it easily ranks as one of the best outdoor activities we’ve done in New Hampshire.

Gearing Up for the Adventure

It all begins at the base area with a thorough safety briefing. The staff walks you through the harness system, helmet fit, and zipline braking techniques. You then head over for two short test zips to ensure your equipment is set up correctly and that you’re comfortable operating the hand brake. These warm-ups are a great confidence booster — short and fun but purposeful.

The Chairlift Ride — Breathe It In

Once your group is cleared, it's time for the real journey to begin — and it starts with a scenic ride up the mountain on Gunstock's chairlift.

This isn’t just a way to get to the top — it’s part of the experience.

As you ascend, you’re slowly lifted above the trees with the entire Belknap Range unfolding behind you. To your right, Lake Winnipesaukee glistens in the distance, surrounded by rolling green hills and dotted with islands. On a clear day, you can even catch a glimpse of Mount Washington far off on the horizon.

It’s quiet, peaceful, and honestly breathtaking. I highly recommend turning around during the ride to soak in the panoramic views — it’s a view that photos don’t quite capture. You begin to realize this isn’t just a thrill ride — it’s a full-on nature experience.

And if you're not into ziplining, they offer this scenic chairlift as a standalone experience for $20 — perfect for a relaxing, picture-worthy ride to the summit and a little picnic.

Let the Zipping Begin - Zipline NH

At the top, it’s game time. The zipline tour is made up of three major runs:

  • Summit Zip – A steep, fast, heart-jumping line that kicks off the adrenaline rush. It’s short but intense and lets you know this isn’t your average zipline.

  • Recoil Zip – This is the big one. After climbing up a tall launch tower, you fly through the air reaching speeds up to 70 mph. It’s smooth, fast, and an absolute rush.

  • Pistol Zip – The final line brings you back to base, soaring over the parking lot with sweeping views of the trees and mountain you just conquered.

hroughout the tour, you’re high above the forest canopy, riding the line between thrill and awe. The mix of natural beauty and raw speed makes for a perfect adventure.
