When you're on a mission to find the best burger in NH, BRGR Bar in Portsmouth deserves a top spot on your list. Just on the edge of Portsmouth’s historic downtown, BRGR Bar isn’t your average burger joint—it’s a modern, locally-owned spot that brings creativity, quality, and community pride to every plate.

The Best Burger in NH quest must stop.
What makes BRGR Bar stand out? It’s their commitment to fresh, responsibly sourced ingredients. The beef is grass-fed, hormone- and antibiotic-free, coming straight from Maine Family Farms in Portland. They even offer bison from Hackmatack Farm in Berwick, ME. That kind of sourcing matters—you can taste it.
The setting combines the comfort of a local pub with a clean, modern vibe. It’s casual, cool, and always buzzing with energy, especially in the warmer months when the outdoor seating opens up.

My Speedo-Season Order
Trying to keep it light, I ordered a cheeseburger over a house salad with grilled mushrooms, onions and pepper jack cheese. Gotta cut those carbs—it’s speedo season after all. Still, no flavor was sacrificed. The beef was juicy, the salad crisp, and the whole combo hit the spot.

The Crew? They Went Big
My crew wasn’t holding back. They went straight for “THE BRGR”: double smashed Maine Family Farm patties, crispy bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and that legendary secret sauce—all stacked on a buttery brioche bun. One paired it with fries, another with a salad.
And yeah, we got the chicken wings too… but those disappeared before we even thought to take a photo. They were that good.

Vegetarian? You’re Covered
My sister and brother-in-law are big fans of BRGR Bar’s vegetarian options—and trust me, they don’t hand out praise easily. Here are some of their favorites:
Smoked Portobello BRGR: Balsamic-smoked mushroom, goat cheese, arugula, roasted red pepper, garlic aioli.
Black Bean & Quinoa BRGR: House-made veggie patty with cheddar, avocado, chipotle aioli, lettuce, and tomato.
Beyond Meat BRGR: A 100% plant-based burger that still delivers that classic burger feel.
Plenty of thoughtful options for vegetarians and anyone trying to mix it up.
They have No Chicken Fried Chicken. I have not had this yet, but a vegetarian family member has had this and said it was excellent.
Bonus Points: Boozy Milkshakes & Full Bar
BRGR Bar isn’t just about the burgers. They also have a full bar and a menu of house-crafted milkshakes—some of which you can spike if you’re in the mood for a boozy twist. It’s the kind of place where every detail feels intentional, from the drink list to the design.

Final Word
Everything we had was top-notch. But that’s nothing new—we keep coming back to BRGR Bar for a reason. If you're serious about smashburgers, fresh ingredients, and great vibes, this place should absolutely be on your radar.
BRGR Bar is what happens when local love, quality sourcing, and burger brilliance come together.
