Something Yummy: Q2 2024 New Hampshire News and Updates

Sometimes the best food experiences aren’t found in the biggest cities, but rather tucked away in the towns and small communities we drive by every day. Over the past few months, I’ve had the chance to explore some fantastic food spots across Southern New Hampshire — and if there’s a theme, it’s that I’ve unintentionally been spending a lot of time hanging out in Rockingham County. No complaints here — the food scene is growing and diverse.

Here’s a look at some of the standout spots that made this quarter’s “Something Yummy” list for Explore NH Life:

1️⃣ More Than Just Pizza in Stratham — Pepe Nero

You might drive by Pepe Nero a dozen times thinking it’s just another pizza place — but step inside and you’ll find a hidden blend of Italian and Middle Eastern flavors. Yes, their pizza looks amazing, but don’t sleep on their Chicken Shawarma, Beef Shawarma, Falafel Wraps, and the Kofta Dinner. I went with the Falafel Wrap — warm Syrian bread, crispy falafel, sharp pickled veggies, and creamy tahini all came together perfectly. Definitely a spot worth the stop.👉 Read the full Pepe Nero review here.

2️⃣ Authentic Greek Right in Windham — Karv Greek Kouzina

Greek food isn’t always easy to find done right in New Hampshire — but Karv nails it. The gyro spits are in full view, loaded with marinated meats turning slowly, just like you'd see in the heart of Athens. The Beef & Lamb Gyro was outstanding, but their menu is full of great choices: Loaded Gyro Fries, Traditional Horiatiki Salad, Greek soups, and house-made spreads like tzatziki and spicy feta. And don’t skip the Spanikopita, Baklava, and Loukoumades from their grab-and-go case.👉 Read the full Karv review here.

3️⃣ A Taste of the Far East in Portsmouth — Bao 155

Bao 155 delivers the street vendor vibe of far east Asia right in Portsmouth. My daughter and I split a Satay Chicken Salad (which frankly should be illegal how good it was), followed by Katsu Pork Bao for me and Teriyaki Chicken Bao for her. The soft bao buns combined with crispy meats, fresh veggies, and sweet sauces made for incredible flavor and texture in every bite. Next visit, we’re planning to split a noodle or rice dish and, of course, grab more bao.👉 👉 Read the full Bao 155 review here.

4️⃣ A Warming Bowl in Dover — Ichi Ramen

Normally when I cruise through Dover, I hit Hong’s — but this time I decided to try Ichi Ramen, a newer addition to the scene. Still getting through a few start-up kinks, but the food? Fantastic. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen — hearty broth, salty, rich, loaded with vegetables, tender meat, and slurp-worthy noodles. It’s the kind of comfort food that warms the soul, and absolutely worth the stop when you’re in the area.👉 Read the full Ichi Ramen review here.
