If you’ve driven along Portsmouth Avenue in Stratham, you’ve probably passed Pepe Nero and thought, “I’ll stop there next time.” Well — next time finally came for me. And I’m glad it did.
A Quick Stop That Opened the Door to Much More
I only had a short window, but finally pulled in to see what Pepe Nero was really about. From the outside, you might assume it's just another pizza place. But once you take a look at the menu, you quickly realize this is far more than your average pizzeria.
Yes, they have plenty of great-looking pizzas — but it's their authentic Middle Eastern offerings that caught my attention and make this spot stand out.
Beyond Pizza — Authentic Middle Eastern Options
Pizza and Falafel
Pepe Nero’s menu brings together Italian comfort food and fresh Middle Eastern flavors you rarely find in southern New Hampshire. While you can absolutely enjoy a wood-fired pizza, you’ll also find:
Chicken Shawarma – Available as a wrap or bowl, marinated with traditional spices.
Beef Shawarma – Also served as a wrap or bowl, full of savory flavor.
Falafel Wrap – Crispy outside, tender inside, with pickled veggies, tahini, and warm Syrian bread.
Rosto Sandwich – Spiced roast beef, thinly sliced and packed with flavor.
Kofta Dinner – Grilled seasoned ground beef, served with rice and traditional sides.
My Experience: The Falafel Wrap Test
I ordered the Falafel Wrap — because as anyone who loves Middle Eastern food knows, finding a good falafel in New Hampshire can be hit or miss. Pepe Nero nailed it. The falafel was perfectly fried — crisp exterior, soft flavorful center — wrapped in warm, fresh Syrian bread. The pickled vegetables added just the right pop, and the tahini dressing brought it all together without overpowering the flavors.
For a quick lunch stop, it exceeded my expectations — simple, fresh, and full of flavor. I’ll absolutely be back to explore more of the menu.
