There’s something special about BBQ that hits differently—especially when it’s done right. I was headed through Center Harbor, NH, on a casual drive when I spotted a place I’d had my eye on for a while: Rubbin Butts BBQ. Let’s be honest—if you're a BBQ fan and you see a sign that says Rubbing Butts, how do you not pull over?
Sitting right in the heart of Center Harbor, across from True Value, this little BBQ joint is easy to miss—but trust me, you don’t want to.
First Impressions: More Than Just BBQ
The second I walked in, I knew this wasn’t your average roadside smokehouse. A clean, cozy dining area with several tables and high tops welcomed me, but it was the cold takeout display that really grabbed my attention.
Lined up neatly were containers of house-made pickles, pickled eggs, BBQ sauces, baked beans, and a colorful array of fresh salads: broccoli, cole slaw, and tortellini. This wasn’t fast food. This was food made with intention.
The Main Event: The RBBBQ Special
I ordered The RBBBQ Special, a generous sampler platter loaded with:
1/4 rack of ribs
Pulled pork
Brisket
Kielbasa
And it was everything I hoped for.

Let's break down this platter in our quest for the Best BBQ in NH
The pulled pork was juicy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with their wide range of sauces. But what really made me smile? Mustard BBQ sauce—that golden nectar from the Carolinas. If you’ve never had it, Carolina Gold is a mustard-based BBQ sauce with a tangy kick and a smooth finish. It’s a staple in South Carolina BBQ and one of my personal favorites. This alone made the visit worth it.
The brisket stole the show. A beautiful smoke ring, rich bark, and a texture that just melted in my mouth. When I asked about it, one of the BBQ masters proudly shared that they use prime brisket. No wonder it was so tender and flavorful.
The ribs? Fall-off-the-bone tender with a smoky depth and just the right amount of seasoning. And the kielbasa was buttery and savory—sliced thick and full of flavor.
For sides, we added cole slaw, broccoli salad, and a thick slice of cornbread that was sweet, crumbly, and completely addictive. This platter was big enough to feed two—unless you're like me, and then you just accept the food coma that follows.
The Secret Sauce: Magic Foods Restaurant Group
As I raved about the brisket, the pitmaster let me in on something that tied the whole experience together: Rubbin Butts BBQ is part of the Magic Foods Restaurant Group—a family of restaurants known for quality, creativity, and top-tier ingredients.
